Caramel Apples

Ingredients

  • 14 oz. individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
  • 2 Tbsp. heavy cream
  • 1 tsp. Sauer's Imitation Vanilla Extract
  • 4 large apples
  • 4 wooden craft sticks
  • 2 cups chopped nuts, chopped candy bars, or other toppings
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Preparation

1. In a large bowl, combine the caramels and cream.

2. Microwave uncovered in 30-second intervals, stirring regularly, until the caramels are melted and the mixture is smooth.

3. Remove from microwave and stir in vanilla.

4. Insert wooden sticks into apples and dip apples into the caramel mixture, turning to coat. Allow excess caramel to drip back into the bowl, then roll the apple in desired toppings.

5. Chill apples in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.

6. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate chips in a glass bowl, microwaving in 15-second intervals and stirring regularly until mixture is smooth.

7. Remove chilled apples from the refrigerator and use a spoon to drizzle the chocolate over the apples.

8. Chill for 15 more minutes, adjusting time if caramel and chocolate need longer to set.
